THE WORKSHOPS
We are offering a four or five day, concentrated acting-in-singing workshop for performers. The course involves ten to fifteen active students chosen from your music/drama/dance departments.

Classes are 90 minutes long, twice a day, for the first three days, as time & scheduling permits. Each morning class is preceded by a physical and vocal warmup. The morning sessions are devoted to ensemble work, the afternoons reserved for individual musical instruction, vocal coaching and classes in acting technique. Depending on the number of students, the fourth (or fifth) day would allow for a staggered schedule of supervised rehearsals. The workshop concludes with a concert performance following the last day of class. In addition to the participating singer/actor, we offer student piano accompanists, trained in classical or Broadway, the opportunity to improve their skills.

Since many singers are trained only to sing the song, we feel special techniques are required to live the song.

To this end, the course includes body work drawn from fitness, dance, yoga and Alexander Technique. The student learns to develop ease in performance, economy of movement, and the necessary physical life the music demands. Through the use of improvisation, experimentation and theater games, we encourage each student performer to find his/her own unique voice.
